The Osaka Light Festival 2025 has officially launched on April 9, transforming the city into a sparkling spectacle of art, technology, and community spirit that shines all year long.

At the heart of this luminous celebration is the Midosuji Illumination 2025, a breathtaking display along Osaka’s most famous boulevard. Designed and overseen by the creative team at LLC Wakka for the third consecutive year, this event emits a warm, welcoming glow from spring through winter, symbolizing Osaka’s bright future and rich cultural heritage.

Event Highlights

Connecting the Past, Present, and Future

Osaka’s renowned illuminations along Midosuji and the surrounding areas are typically a winter-only spectacle, attracting many visitors during the holiday season. However, the Osaka Light Festival 2025 allows residents and tourists to enjoy these vibrant illuminations year-round.

The festival’s lighting design draws inspiration from Osaka’s rich history, dynamic present, and forward-looking future. Under the theme Glow Light – Growing Light, the display emphasizes community participation and highlights the city’s ongoing evolution through innovative light art.

Taking place from sunset until 1:00, the illumination transforms the streets into a colorful and immersive environment, offering a unique opportunity to experience Osaka’s iconic light displays outside the usual seasonal schedule. The event combines traditional light art with digital and interactive elements, making it a prominent attraction in the city’s cultural calendar.

Community Comes Alive with Light Art and Workshops

One of the festival’s highlights is the Light Art Street, a series of interactive installations and workshops open to everyone from April 9 to October 13. Participants create their own colorful light boxes, which are displayed on eight buildings along Midosuji. As the days go by, these community-driven light boxes become more vibrant, making everyone a part of Osaka’s luminous story.

Digital Art and Immersive Experiences

Digital art plays a key role in the festival. From April 9 to July 31 at Kit Mido, and until October 31 at Minami Mido, immersive projection mapping transforms historic halls into digital canvases. Visitors can step inside these visual displays, watch them evolve, and even interact through augmented reality (AR).

 Nightly shows run from 19:00 to 23:00, offering 15-minute looping immersive experiences—perfect for quick visits or longer exploration.

Fun Photo Zones and Light Installations

For those who love snapping photos with a twist, QR codes along the street unlock fun AR experiences, including animated neon signs and interactive photo zones. 

One of the standout features is Color Shadow in front of Kit Mido’s Sanmon Gate, where visitors create colorful shadows on the historic staircase—blending history with modern lighting magic.

Illuminating Osaka’s Landmarks

The festival also highlights iconic buildings like the Osaka Gas Building and Hotel Nikko Osaka with facade lighting. 

These historic landmarks are synchronized with the street illuminations, creating a stunning visual corridor that celebrates Osaka’s ongoing growth and innovation.
